D Mills and The Thrills are an 8-year-old hip-hop band built on the rural, yet burgeoning city of Fargo, ND. They are a rare sight, indeed. The six piece band, led by eclectic musical powerhouse/emcee Diane Miller, take the rudiments of the urban genre of hip-hop and pair it with the personality of Midwestern musicians. Each talented member with an appreciation for hip-hop, yet whose backgrounds are rooted in folk, psych rock, indie, reggae and funk.
D Mills & The Thrills are as authentic as they are multifaceted. Each original song features personal lyrics told from a sensitive, courageous woman in search for universal truths and ideas about how to move forward from life’s troubles and setbacks. The lyrics are written intuitively and are intended to challenge the listener as they are delivered with speed, rhythmic complexity and intense emotional energy -- not mention, backed up by infectious, groove-oriented instrumentation.

The band has become one of the most celebrated original acts to have come out of North Dakota in the past decade. They’ve received praise and recognition from Forum of Fargo-Moorhead, MPR, NPR, TEDxFargo, HPR, Fargo Monthly, Prairie Public, Arts Partnership, and more. They’ve shared the stage with an eclectic number of artists, including Dessa, Caroline Smith, Brother Ali, Nooky Jones, Carnage The Executioner, Todd Closer and more. D Mills, as a solo artist, has opened for platinum recording artists Nelly and Sir Mix-A-Lot. All band members actively perform with different groups in both Fargo and Minneapolis. They even pull off tributes to Rage Against the Machine, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Grateful Dead, Bob Marley, Iron & Wine, Beastie Boys and more.

Miller, since moving to Minneapolis in the fall of 2018, has made a name for herself as a talent buyer and performer. She’s toured nationally with Minneapolis rock band Kiss The Tiger; opened for acclaimed artists such as Chris Koza at Parkway Theatre and Sophistafunk at Turf Club; headlined coveted venues such as 331 Club. She primarily serves as the talent buyer of Icehouse, though she’s also curated music for Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, Indeed Brewing Company’s Art-A-Whirl and Eat Street Music Festival.

D Mills & The Thrills continue to perform shows in North Dakota, Minnesota and South Dakota in various capacities as a band. They have released one full-length album, “On Your Mark”.
